about our dances & sponsors

Social Dance Formats

Daytime and evening dances will be either Dedicated or Shared formats.

Dedicated Format: We will have three ballrooms of open dancing, each of which will be dedicated to a specific style or genre of dance. Dedicated ballrooms will be available all night Friday starting at 7pm and all night Saturday starting at 10pm. The three ballrooms will be:

Dedicated Country

This room will be all country music with a heavy emphasis on partner dancing.

Dedicated Line Dance

This room will be all genres and levels of line dancing.

Dedicated West Coast Swing

This room will be all west coast swing, mixing different genres of music (contemporary, pop, blues, etc).

Shared Format: Shared format dances will welcome all styles of dance into one ballroom. Based on feedback from attendees in previous years, we have created an outline of how each set would ideally run throughout the dance.

The evening will consist of multiple sets, each set consisting of four parts, and each part will contain three or four songs:

Part I
Two Step
Two Step
Waltz or NC2
WCS/Shadow

Part II

Part III

Shared format dances include The Boots, Briefs, & Bras Welcome Dance, The Wrangler Rhinestone Ball, The Last Dance, and The WWLA After Party.

Hosted & Themed Social Dancing

Boots, Briefs, & Bras - A tradition rooted with Oil Can Harry’s and WWLA, dancers are invited to dress up or strip down* as much as they’re comfortable with. *Nudity is not allowed.

Blackout Friday - Hosted by SoCal Westy, Blackout Friday is a bimonthly West Coast Night that invites dancers of all levels to lead, follow, or switch regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.

The Wrangler Rhinestone Ball - Hosted by the L.A. Wranglers, the Wrangler Rhinestone Ball is the main dance of the weekend. Attendees are encouraged to dress in rhinestones, sequins, or anything that sparkles and shines. The evening will include Shared Format dancing, awards, and a few performances.

It'sAllSwing Saturday - Based on their monthly de-gendered Sunday night dances, It'sAllSwing will be hosting the Saturday night dedicated West Coast Swing room.

The Last Dance - Join us for The Last Dance at our host venue as we wish our friends and family a safe journey home.

The WWLA After Party - Didn't get enough dancing or just not ready to go home? Join us for The WWLA After Party back at The Write-Off Room for more Shared Format dancing.

Hosts & Sponsors

VIP/Sponsor Brunch - A great way to help sponsor WWLA! All brunch attendees help us meet our financial responsibility with the host venue. This brunch is included with every sponsorship level or can be purchased a la carte. You can add Brunch or a Bronze Level Sponsor from the Registration page or you can Become a Sponsor.

The L.A. Wranglers - TheLAWranglers.org - The hosts of Wrangler Weekend Los Angeles, the L.A. Wranglers dance troupe is the face of the WLADA nonprofit (Become a Sponsor) and use dance performance and instruction to promote inclusionary dance spaces for everyone regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.

It'sAllSwing - It'sAllSwing.dance - Founded by this year's West Coast Swing headline instructors, Samantha Buckwalter and Matt Richey, It'sAllSwing promotes and preserves the rich history of swing dancing, including culture, music, dance, and more.

SoCal Westy - @SoCalWesty - We strive to inspire and help cultivate a friendly, fun, warm, safe, open-minded, de-gendered and nurturing community in Southern California. Above all else, our mantra is to grow West Coast Swing! Originally formed in Los Angeles, by Champion Dancer Demetre Souliotes, SoCal Westy has grown and evolved into a not-for-profit board ran community with the simple goal of spreading West Coast Swing. The SoCal Westy board is comprised of active community members who each donate their time to assist in achieving our goal.

Follow Your Arrow - @FollowYourArrowLA - Based on the culture of Oil Can Harry's, Follow Your Arrow exists to provide a safe space for country, swing, and line dancers regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.

The Mayflower Club - MayflowerClub.com - The Boots, Briefs, & Bras Welcome Dance will be held here, located just a short distance from our host hotel. The Mayflower Club is a non-profit organization that organizes many entertaining events and activities on a regular basis such as parties, dances, banquets, balls, social nights, stage shows, bridge & whist card games, pub nights, special holiday events and an annual (very) British Pantomime (A very funny stage show, which is not in mime, that appeals to kids and adults alike). The Mayflower Club is one of the oldest and largest British clubs of its kind, in California, and membership is open to anyone.

The Write-Off Room - TheWriteOffRoom.com - A spectacular music venue now located at the site of Oil Can Harry's. With the same intimate, friendly atmosphere as its original location in Woodland Hills, the venue features world renowned musicians and a great sound system. Offering a wide range of musical genres, including big band, rock, pop, jazz, blues, salsa and disco, The Write-off Room even hosts weekly Country & Line Dancing with DJ Rick every Sunday starting at 6pm.
